How the COASSAN Project Helps Children in Nicaragua

In 2021, COASSAN, an organization composed of female coffee farmers, launched an initiative to support children's education in their community in Jinotega, Nicaragua. This project, simply named "COASSAN School Project," provides a safe space for children aged 4 to 12 to learn, play, and grow.

Why was the project created? Public schools often lacked sufficient education, and children spent much of their free time in front of screens. COASSAN decided to create a space where children could gain additional knowledge, access school supplies, and even receive snacks—sometimes the main reason parents sent their children to the project.

How does mamacoffee help? Our company was one of the first to support the project. We provide equipment like papers, pencils, books, but also some finances for ingredients for snack preparation. Our colleague Chepe, who oversees all our projects in Nicaragua, is also involved. Thanks to this support, children can attend twice a week, enjoy English lessons, play board games, or do their homework with COASSAN farmers.

English lessons and shared activities English lessons are conducted through fun activities and games. There is no traditional grading system—students learn at their own pace through regular review sessions. In addition to English, COASSAN farmers Yahaira and Liliam Chavarría also assist the children.

Connection to the Nicaragua Woman’s Project COASSAN farmers are the ones cultivating coffee for our beloved espresso project, Nicaragua Woman’s Project. This coffee, which we are happy to offer again after some time, is proof of our long-term partnership and our effort to support not only high-quality products but also social development in coffee-growing regions.

The COASSAN Project is an example of how small steps can positively impact a community. By purchasing Nicaragua Woman’s Project coffee, you are supporting not only COASSAN farmers but also the future of their children.
