About the coffee:

Gatare washing station, the first of its kind in the area, established in 2003, boasts an excellent reputation for processing very high-quality coffee. Located in the Nyamasheke district in the western province and situated at an altitude of 1850 meters, this station is surrounded by hills full of coffee trees. Gatare has a successful history of participation in the Cup Of Excellence competition, where it has always achieved significant success. The station features extensive capacity including a high-capacity disc pulper, washing channels, dry fermentation tanks, and several soaking tanks. Gatare station employs seven permanent workers and during the season hires an additional 90 employees, 80% of whom are women. Farms around the station are generally small, with an average size of about one hectare—some farmers in the area may have only ten coffee trees among other crops. However, all farmers utilizing Gatare station services are continuously trained to achieve the highest possible quality yields from their trees.
